Uncertainty Is An Inherent Part Of Being Human
You know that line from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song where Will goes, "Life got flipped turned upside down." That pretty much sums up how we feel as we reflect on the past couple of months of our lives. What's even funnier is that this notion of the unpredictability of life happens more often than we expect it to and puts current things into perspective. While we all know life is full of unexpected twists and turns, it's in these moments of uncertainty that we find ourselves tested, and it's through navigating these challenges that we grow stronger.
As individuals, and a couple, who plan things out and have multiple contingency plans based on potential outcomes, it can really suck when life throws curveballs that we could not have anticipated despite our best-laid plans. There have been so many curveballs that it makes us wonder if we should start expecting the unexpected (any Big Brother fans?) all the time and plan for the worst more consistently. Because when so many things happen all at once, it's so easy to feel disoriented, anxious, and frustrated.
On the flip side, we're also feeling very grateful since we're actually in somewhat of an okay position to deal with the unexpectedness for the first time in many years than ever before and know that things could be way worse. We reflected on how much harder things were in previous years while navigating COVID, a home break-in, business losses, the passing of loved ones, and more in the past seven years together as a couple. Taking comfort in knowing that we've handled so much worse together only helps strengthen our bond as we navigate and roll with the new punches coming our way. We recognize that we are strong enough to weather this current storm, too, no matter how many more surprises may lie ahead.
Through the love and support we have for each other, our hard work, the support from loved ones, and the amazing Glob community of friends who care about us, we're reminded time and time again that there is a lot to be grateful for and show gratitude toward. The messages we've received in our absence from streaming and creating as N&D have given us so much strength, and we're beyond lucky to be the recipients of so much love and encouragement. The comforting messages kept us strong as we continued to navigate -all of the things- these past couple of months.
Uncertainty is an inherent part of being human, and we're making sure to stay mindful, resilient, and flexible while appreciating every learning opportunity that arises from the combined experiences.
Here are some things that happened this past September & October in our lives:
Celebrated 10 birthdays of loved ones (a mix of virtual and in-person) with a stand-out highlight being when we gifted our niece her first toddler video game controller we had been wanting to get her since learning of her existence!
Said goodbye to our family car we’ve had countless memories in after a car accident.
Observed Hispanic Heritage Month and got to work on a cool project for a client which inspired us to conceptualize a creation of our own we hope to complete someday.
Moved out of a one-bedroom apartment and into a two-bedroom apartment for the first time so we can finally have a dedicated office space!
Watched Casper and The Nightmare Before Christmas on Halloween and went to bed early since we were too exhausted to dress up this year but we didn't want spooky season to pass us by.
Observed Day Of The Dead & Pitru Paksha, and set an intention to create our own ofrenda and pooja area in our home now that we have the space.

Amidst everything these last couple of months, we've also been trying to stay informed on current events, and the things we've been seeing in the news and media have been heartbreaking to say the least. It seems almost silly to talk about our first-world hurdles when there are so many others dealing with far more unimaginable things across the globe. It's been like a tug of war between guilt, gratitude, anger, and disbelief, but still nothing compared to what millions of others are going through daily. While we wish things were easier, and things were going smoother, in the grand scheme of things, we know that we are still very lucky and privileged.
There are always injustices happening across the globe, and it can be difficult to speak up about everything all the time, but to be silent is to be complicit, especially when it comes to people losing their lives. That's why we couldn't reflect on our lives in our Retrospective Series without speaking up for the thousands of innocent lives that have been murdered in Palestine and the millions of innocent lives being put through so much pain and suffering.
As Americans, we're extremely disappointed that the US is funding the bombardment of Gaza and rejecting a call for a humanitarian ceasefire that so many other countries across the world, including reputable organizations like the United Nations, Doctors Without Borders, and countless others agree with. What's happening is dehumanizing, and while we are still actively listening and learning, we will always use our voices to stand up for what we believe in. We believe in peace, human rights for every human, and that no human life is more valuable than another. This is why we stand with the people of Palestine as they demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the ongoing genocidal actions of the Israeli government.
Learning about the dark history that led to today's current events has opened our eyes wider than ever to the many other humanitarian issues happening in other parts of the world too, and although we can continue to write about our thoughts for days, for now, we hope to bring awareness and share some resources. We encourage you to do your part to learn more and speak up for what you believe in.
